With other two Nokia siblings, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL making their way to India by next month, the competition in the Android market is set to stiffen.
Nokia India has launched the much talked about Android phone Nokia X in India. Bearing a price tag of Rs 8,599, the device which features a forked version of Android 4.1.2 debuted at the recently concluded MWC conference.
The dual-SIM device comes fitted with a 4-inch WVGA display and a dual-core processor along with 512MB of RAM, a basic 3-megapixel rear camera, 1500 mAh battery and 3G support.
In order to entice the consumers the company is bundling 10GB of free OneDrive storage and lifetime free access to Mixradio with Nokia X smartphone.
The device as we have mentioned earlier will not house the Google Play store for apps, Google Search, Google Maps or Gmail services. The device offers a choice of Android apps along with signature Microsoft offerings. In addition the company has also bundled its own search tool Bing, Here Maps, Skype among other services.
Given the range of vibrant colors (cyan, yellow, green, white, red and black), Nokia X stands a good chance to help Nokia regain its market share in the crucial mid-range segment in India.
Nokia X will be joined by its two other Android siblings, X+ and X in the next two months. Both the devices are expected to be priced slightly higher than Nokia X but within the sub Rs 15,000 category.Nokia unveiled the X series of smartphones at MWC a couple of weeks ago. The series signifies Nokia’s first outing to Android and is set to compete in the low-range category.
The Nokia X has already got a price tag attached to it while the Nokia X+ and XL still keep us guessing.
The cheapest of the three smartphones, the Nokia X, is listed on the website of the Mobile Store for Rs. 8,500. The website claims that the device will be available from March 15. The Nokia X is available in Black, Green, Cyan, Yellow, Red and White.
The retailer is a third-party vendor and the price can not be taken as the official one set by Nokia. The Finnish company had claimed that the phone will cost close to Rs. 7,500 at its event in Barcelona.
The Nokia X sports a 4-inch screen having a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The phone is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor along with 512 MB of RAM. It features 4 GB of internal storage with support for further expansion. It has a 3 megapixel back camera and no snapper in the front.
While the X series does run on Android but it doesn’t look anything like what we are familiar with. The AOSP version of Android is heavily forked to resemble the interface found on the Lumia phones.
There is no access to Google Play Store and instead users will have to rely on Nokia’s own store for downloading apps.
The ingenious folks at xda developers have managed to port Nokia’s app store to Android. While almost all the offerings are available in the Play Store but it allows you to install Nokia’s apps on your Android device.
Some apps require rooting your device but the overall lack of quality makes the process far from worthwhile.
Will you be buying the Nokia X for Rs. 8,500?
